Rajan is amazing ... Some of his stuff with LZ are very important.
But shleifer is in a different league. Acemoglu writes 10 papers with the same idea and huge models that deliver a mouse. Shleifer has amazingly deep intuition for what matters and writes the simplest models to express new ideas.
The only other economist who I rate on par with shleifer is Akerlof ... Maybe too gdntleman to be as prolific but really amazing insights he has conveyed with beautifully simple models
